My Life is Out of Order

Today was gross. Flat out gross. Literally.

I filled up an entire grocery bag with tissues.

Oy. I’ve never experienced so much snot in my entire life. It was just bad news everywhere. The entire day I’ve been lying on my bed/couch/beanbag trying to find the off switch for my nose. I even downed a cupful of Marco’s drugs. I’m pretty sure he enjoys seeing me suffer because the orange syrupy stuff he gave me did nothing but blast my taste buds with an incredibly disturbing combination of citrus, mint, and baby powder. My gag reflex dreads the thought of it.

On a related note…. It’s 3:30 am and I’m still not tired. Also bad news. My lovely cold knocked me out flat last night, so once I climbed up to my lovely dorm room bed I was out for a solid 12 hours. With my bed time that means I woke up sometime around 3 pm today. Sweet.

So I’ve been trying to get the Recent Photoness portion of this blog up and running, but I guess it just isn’t gonna happen anytime soon. Apparently WordPress truly enjoys being a malicious dictator of a blogger and won’t let me set up that section how I want to. I guess I’ll just turn it into something else instead. This post from Vegas was originally supposed to go under there, but since that isn’t going to work out I thought I’d stick it up on the normal feed. So here’s my thoughts on our trip to Vegas, written a couple months ago [check the VegasPhotos here]:

The folksies from the Magazine Writing class were all assigned to do different stories on ministries in Vegas. They set everything up on there own and had to do their own hard core journalization to make these stories happen. I have to say, I was pretty dang impressed with Kelli and Katie DUB. They were powerhouses! Pure domination. They were the writers that I chose to work with so between them, Kelsey (the other photog), and myself, I’d say we rocked the assignment pretty dang well. I don’t have their stories, but if you guys read this please stick up a link or something! That’d be sweet.

I’m not gonna lie… I really dig Vegas. I’ve been there probably 10 times or so, but this was my first non-touristy time there. We went to the actually city, where real people (aka not strippers or drunk tourists) work and live and do their deal. It was a great time. I have officially decided that the Las Vegas Sun is awesome like none other. And this is coming from someone who absolute despises newspapers. I’ve already sent them my resume. For reals.

I never heard back from The Sun, but it’s probably for the better since I would’ve had to pay for my own housing there. I can’t afford to be losing any money over the summer since I’m going to London in the fall. I’m thinking I’ll probably need all the cashmoneyflow I can scrounge up.

I’m still not tired and I don’t have a whole lot to do at the moment, so I might mess around with WordPress a little more and try and get a working page up and running or maybe update my 365. Or maybe I’ll get lucky and be able to catch some Zzz’s.

Spring Break part Uno

Hey folksies, it’s been a little while. Just got done with spring break. It was awesomerelaxingfungood. Just chilled with Rob at the house for the most part, but Marco, Katie, and Jenn all came down and chilled for awhile too. Note to self, horseback riding is doable, but not my best skill ever.

Anyways, I have a buttload and a half of pics and videos from this week, but for the sake of digital organization, I think I’m going to post separate events in separate posts.

So first up was our epic shooting adventure. It was pouring, we had access to some pretty sweet guns, and we started the day off with super greasy, fatty, Filberto’s breakfast burritos. Glorious. Weapons of choice: Magnum .357, 12-gauge pump shotgun, and double barrel 12-gauge shot gun. Good stuff.

Beautiousness Everywhere

I got a new toy this week. It’s flat out sweet. 5D mkII. Glorious. If you’re not a photopeep, just skip this and check the video at the end. For you visually inclined, keep reading.

I loved my 5D, but this just puts it to shame. I only upgraded so that I could shoot gorgeous 1080p HD video with all my current lenses, but I got a few perks as well… smooooooth, clean ISO 6400, waaayyy nicer build (much closer to my 1D now), and the freaking nicest LCD screen I’ve ever seen.

ISO 5,000? What the crap? Where’s the noise?!?!

Oh. Here it is…

If you look closely you can kind of make out the noise and some banding in the picture above. P.S. the ISO is 12,800. Twelve thousand and eigh hundred ISO! Ah.

Yeah. I’m pretty stoked to put this sucker through the paces. So here’s some sample video: Please excuse the mediocre audio (I didn’t have a mic), the spastic tripod movement (I was planning to edit this eventually), and the out of focus bass player (time to work on my manual focus skills eh?).

Those clicks and pauses in the video were the 21 megapixel still shots I was grabbing while recording 1080p HD video. Holy. Crap. To view the video in beautiful high definition, go here

The band is The Workday Release. It’s my former  (and probably future) roommate’s new band. Check them out ’cause they’re pretty dang spiffy. I dig them. Anyways… I’m sure I’ll be updating on my new gloriousness. Until then…. Spring Break!

WordPress with the ‘Tude

Heyo. So wordpress is still giving me some serious attitude. I can’t get any of the side pages to link up to each other correctly so I still have all the lovely “working on it…” fill-ins on the other pages. Sorry for the inconvenience folks. Anyways, I should probably start blogging more often. This once-every-week-and-a-half thing isn’t quite what I had planned.

Today was pure massiveness on campus. We had a huge “Does God Exist?” debate between William Lane Craig and Christopher Hitchens. Apparently this was big wig stuff. I’m talking 4,000 visitors crammed in our gym and over 15,000 viewers worldwide. That’s big stuff for our weenie little Biola. As usual, The Chimes has all the nitty-gritty.

In other news… I played with a Canon 5D mkII today. For you non-camera folks, it’s currently the holy grail of Canon cameras. It’s like the Macbook of cameras – not the fastest thing ever, but everybody wants one. I took some video with it and it is freaking gorgeous. Like amazingly freaking gorgeous. Oy. This could be bad news for the bank account. I’ll try and post my sample video sometime, but wordpress doesn’t play nicely with glorious 1080p HD clips. I’ll have to try to find a work around.

We had to do a few photo illustrations for my photojournalism class last week and they were pretty fun, so I thought I’d through those up for ya:
